The central development committee have no funds from which they could provide financial assistance for an electricity supply on these islands. Payments from the special regional development fund may be used only to promote economic projects.
The Government have approved a scheme of assistance to enable the inhabitants of Inishturbot and Inishturk to transfer to the mainland and the Minister for Lands issued a statement to this effect on 25th May, 1973. As the vast majority of the islanders are in favour of moving, the provision of electricity to these two islands should not arise.
