Dáil Éireann debate -
Thursday, 7 Jun 1973

Vol. 266 No. 1

Business of Dáil.

It appears to me some misunderstanding arose today. I am aware exactly what the Order of Business was. It is in front of the Chair. I have also given the Leas-Cheann Comhairle a copy of what exactly the Taoiseach said. I understand the Standing Orders provide that questions on a Thursday shall be from 2.30 to 3.30 p.m. However, during the last three years it has been the practice of the House to finish questions on Thursday and then to resume whichever debate is in progress. I should like to ask you to draw the attention of the Taoiseach and the Ceann Comhairle to this matter. Several people today wished to contribute during Question Time; Question Time ended at 3.30 and this was not specified by the Taoiseach. He went back to a Standing Order which has not been applied for at least three years.

The Deputy is no doubt aware that Standing Orders provide that Question Time be, as he has stated, from 2.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. Unless arrangements for the continuation of questions have been specifically made, the Order of Business is resumed at 3.30 p.m.

The Dáil adjourned at 5 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, 12th June, 1973.
