Vol. 266 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ore Exports Value.

22.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the total value of ore exported from this country during 1972; and the value of the royalties accruing.

Mr. R. Burke

The total value of exports of metal ores and concentrates in 1972 was £18,987,000.

Under the terms of the State mining leases governing the working of base metals, royalties accruing from the working of such minerals in 1972 will not fall due for payment until mid 1973. The total receipts under the Minerals Development Acts in respect of minerals other than petroleum for the year ended 31st December, 1972, from fees and royalties, including royalties from the working of State-owned base metals in the year 1971, amounted to £125,933. There may be some adjustment in this figure when profits in certain cases are finally assessed by the Revenue Commissioners.

I think the Minister said royalties are not due now. Could he indicate what royalties will be due for 1972?

Mr. R. Burke

I am not in a position to give the Deputy that information at the moment. Perhaps if he communicates with the Department privately he will get the information.
