Vol. 266 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Legislation Review.

22.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has proposals to strengthen the law in regard to pornography.

23.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will introduce legislation for the complete abolition of the death penalty.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 22 and 23 together.

Many areas of the law will be receiving my attention and I have no doubt that the subjects mentioned by the Deputy will come up for review in due course. At this stage I could not commit myself to any decided view on either subject.

Taking Nos. 22 and 23 together seems a funny combination.

My initial reaction was rather similar, but as they come from the same Deputy and they both have the same answer it seems an economy of time to take them together.

Is the Minister for or against pornography?

Taking them separately, what would the Minister's view be?

My views on them would be irrelevant to this particular occasion.
