Vol. 266 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Constituencies Bill.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to circulate the revision of constituencies Bill.

The Bill will be circulated to Deputies as soon as possible but I am not yet in a position to give an exact date.

Did the Minister not indicate that we would have this Bill around Easter the last time this question was put down to him?

No. I said that I would introduce it as soon as possible and I assure him that I will.

Are we to take it now, therefore, that there is basic disagreement within the Cabinet?

No. The Deputy is not to take any such thing. He can take it that he will have a long hot summer discussing it.

May I ask the Minister whether the result of the Presidential Election has delayed the introduction of the Bill?

This Government do not depend on what happens at Presidential elections to draw up the constituency boundaries.

You placed your whole future on it.

You placed your whole future on the general election and look what happened to you.

(Dublin Central): Can the Minister indicate whether it will be circulated before the summer recess?

It will.
