Vol. 266 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Traffic Lights.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the long delay and the urgency of the matter, he will expedite a decision to provide traffic lights at the junction of Limekiln Lane-Greentrees Road-St. Peter's Road, Dublin.

The installation of traffic lights is a matter for decision by the local authority concerned acting at the request or with the consent of the Garda Síochána. My Department are concerned only in so far as Road Fund moneys may be sought to cover the cost of such installations. There are no proposals before my Department for traffic lights at the location mentioned by the Deputy.

May I ask the Parliamentary Secretary to take some steps to try to expedite a decision on this matter? This is a very dangerous crossing. Quite a number of people have been very seriously injured, and also a number of school children. It is very difficult to get a school warden to take on the job there. As I said, it is a very dangerous junction. I would appreciate it if the Parliamentary Secretary would try to take some steps to expedite a decision from the Department of Justice in relation to the provision of those traffic lights.
