Vol. 266 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Liffey Anti-Pollution Measures.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government if any report has yet been received from the committee set up by Dublin Corporation, the ESB and Dublin Port and Docks Board to investigate anti-pollution measures for the River Liffey.

I presume that the Deputy has in mind the joint survey of the River Liffey and Dublin Bay undertaken for Dublin Corporation, the Electricity Supply Board and the Dublin Port and Docks Board. I would remind the Deputy that this is a matter for the authorities who have undertaken the survey. I understand from the corporation that the report of the team carrying out the survey is expected in the late autumn.

When was the committee set up?

I have not got that information.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary consider that the proposed oil refinery would be one of the greatest sources of pollution in relation to this question, and has he got any comment to make on the matter?

That is a separate question.

It is very important, if we are talking about pollution, that we should take the attitude that the oil refinery should be prevented from being sited where it is proposed to be sited.
