On 29th May, 1972, an allocation of £2,500 was made to Kilkenny Corporation under the amenity grant scheme to assist in the carryingout of works of public amenity in the financial year 1972-73, and the full amount was expended by the corporation on the improvement of the canal walk between the river Nore and Kilkenny Castle grounds.
