Vol. 266 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salmon Drift Net Licences.

37.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the number of salmon drift net licences issued in the fishery districts of Killary, Ballinakill and Galway in each year from 1969 to 1972 and from 1st January, 1973, to date.

Presumably the Deputy has in mind those fishery districts on the west coast in which drift net fishing was opened in 1969, that is, Galway, Connemara and Ballinakill.

I refer the Deputy to the annual reports on the sea and inland fisheries for the years 1969 to 1971, inclusive, which have been published and which contain the particulars required in respect of those years.

The report for 1972 has not yet been published but the relevant figures for that year are, Galway 33, Connemara 18, Ballinakill 35.

Drift net licences issued from 1st January, 1973, to date, are: Galway 38; Connemara 30; Ballinakill 39.

38.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the number of salmon draft net licences issued in each of the years 1970 to 1973 inclusive in the Castlemaine harbour area, Ballinskelligs Bay and the Kenmare river estuary, County Kerry.

Statistics of salmon fishing licences, which are issued by boards of conservators, are compiled in respect of fishery districts only and not in respect of smaller areas. It is regretted, therefore, that the information requested is not available.
