asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why a person (name supplied) who owns 30 acres of land and is aged 51 years has been appointed as auxiliary postman at a place (details supplied) in County Offaly in preference to another person (name supplied) aged 19 years who has no land and was drawing unemployment benefit.

Three candidates were nominated by the employment exchange for the post in question. The circumstances and qualifications of all three were carefully considered and the most suitable candidate was appointed.
