2.

asked the Minister for Finance the steps being taken to protect the artefacts that may be found in the general area of the Augustinian Priory at Saint Mary's. Kells, County Kilkenny.

Mr. Kenny

Archaeological excavations commenced at Kells Priory on 10th July, 1972. The finds have been varied and numerous, and some of them have already been used in conservation work which is also in progress there. The other artefacts are being classified and are at present in the custody of the Commissioners of Public Works in accordance with normal practice.
