asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the steps he proposes to take to improve television reception from the Maghera transmitter, County Clare as the signal is blotted out at certain times in the afternoons and evenings by interruptions from foreign stations.

133.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will make improvements at the TV booster stations in County Donegal in order to improve reception and eliminate total breakdowns for viewers in Donegal and also in the Six-County area.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 130, 131, 132 and 133 together.

I understand that there are a number of areas throughout the country, including those referred to by the Deputies, where reception is below the national average. In the case of Maghera I understand that interferference from the transmitter is affected only at certain times of the year. RTE say that they have completed a detailed examination of the general position and they hope to formulate plans shortly for dealing with it.
