Vol. 266 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Whiskey.

17.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that top-grade bars in Dublin have increased the price of a glass of whiskey from 42p to 46p; and if he will state if this is in order.

I am aware that some licensed premises in Dublin have implemented increases of the order mentioned by the Deputy. An increase of this order is in excess of the increase of 3p per glass of spirits provided for in the budget and I propose to take steps to have the excessive increases withdrawn.

Can the Minister say when he will take such steps?

I cannot give the Deputy an exact date but it is being actively pursued. I can say they will be taken in the near future.

The Minister must be aware that this increase has been effective for several weeks now, if not months. Surely the Minister is either going to do something about it or he is not.
