Vol. 266 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cavan School.

49.

asked the Minister for Education when the building of the new central school for the parish of Ballymachugh and Drumlummon South at Ballynarry. County Cavan will commence.

Mr. R. Burke

Sketch plans for the erection of a new central school at Ballynarry. County Cavan have recently been received in the Department. It is hoped to have them approved at an early date. The remaining arrangements for the erection of the school rest with the manager's architect in consultation with the Office of Public Works.

It is not possible, at this stage, to say when work on the building will commence.

Would it be possible to get an approximate date?

Mr. R. Burke

The Department, in December, 1971, sanctioned a grant towards the cost of the school. Subsequent difficulties arose regarding suitability of the site. There were high tension cables and so on. In February, 1973, the Commissioners of Public Works recommended that the manager employ an architect to prepare working drawings. They would be unable to undertake the work for a considerable time. As soon as satisfactory plans can be submitted to me, I will see that the work is proceeded with as quickly as possible.
