Vol. 266 No. 8

Written Answers. - Industrial Closures.

230.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of industrial undertakings that closed during 1972; and the number of workers employed in those undertakings.

I am informed that 56 industrial undertakings closed down in 1972; the number of workers who had been employed in these undertakings was 1,793.

I understand that eight of the 56 undertakings have since been re-opened. The estimated employment content of these eight undertakings is 200 persons. I have no doubt that many of those employed in the remaining 48 undertakings have since secured employment in new industries set up with the assistance of the Industrial Development Authority.
