Vol. 266 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Technical Staff.

50.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give details of the additional technical staff recruited to the housing section of his Department since 14th March, 1973.

One building inspector recruited to fill a normal vacancy took up duty in my Department on 9th April, 1973.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say how he hopes to cope with the promised extra number of houses?

That is a new matter. The Deputy is endeavouring to introduce new matter into this discussion.

That is the purpose of the question and, I believe, it is quite relevant.

The question is in respect of additional staff and not housing policy.

The question concerns housing section staff. My concern is if the Minister, in realising the ambition he has in regard to housing, is going to make the staff work harder or does he intend to employ additional staff? To my mind it is a very relevant question.

If the Deputy wishes to put down a specific question in relation to housing policy he is in order to do so.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary agree that the number of technical staff employed by the corporation at present is inadequate even to meet the present programme? The corporation find that they are unable to recruit the necessary technical staff. The Parliamentary Secretary should be aware of that fact.

It is not a fact.
