Vol. 267 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Airport Employees.

4.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if, in view of the dissatisfaction with the superannuation provisions for the former employees of his Department at Shannon now employed by Aer Rianta, he will indicate the steps he proposes to take to redress their grievances.

As I explained in reply to a similar question on 21st June, 1973, all staff who transferred to Aer Rianta receive full superannuation credit for their service with the Department.

Some Aer Rianta staff, recruited before April, 1970, where eligible, will be entitled to a full pension of two-thirds of retiring salary from the superannuation fund and to a full social welfare pension. These employees will, of course, be paying full contributions to both funds.

Former unestablished employees of my Department who transferred to Aer Rianta are entitled to a pension made up of full social welfare pension plus an Aer Rianta pension both of which when combined will give an employee on retirement with 40 years' service a pension equal to two-thirds of his retiring wage. This provision applies to all insurable employees entering Aer Rianta service after 1st April, 1970, who pay reduced contributions.

In no case has any transferred officer pension rights less favourable than if he had remained in the Civil Service.
