The consumer price index is compiled quarterly in respect of mid-February, mid-May, mid-August and mid-November each year. Between mid-February and mid-May this year the index for all items rose by 3.0 per cent; the specific increases in the cost of food and clothing were 5.2 per cent and 4.2 per cent, respectively.
