Vol. 267 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farm Accounts.

32.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the proposals he has to ensure that all farmers keep accounts in order that they may help his Department in assessing farm incomes and in the study of farm economy.

As the Deputy is, no doubt, aware national farm surveys are carried out regularly by the Agricultural Institute, the results of which are available for farm management, agricultural policy and national accounting purposes. In the present and future years the institute's survey will form an integral part of the EEC Farm Accounts Information System.

Under the scheme for modernisation of farms which will come into operation next year, farmers working to a development plan will be required to keep accounts as a condition for qualifying for farm investment aids. In addition there will be financial incentives available under that scheme for farmers generally to encourage them to keep accounts.

What does the Minister mean by farm incentive aids?

There is a figure of about £200 over six years which will be available to farmers to keep accounts.

Small farm incentive schemes?
