Vol. 267 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Lands.

46.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission will acquire the potentially productive area of up to three hundred acres at Glenakip, Rathcormac, County Cork for division among the large number of local smallholders some of whom formerly enjoyed grazing rights in this area.

(Cavan): These lands, comprising 337 acres, were recently acquired by the Forest and Wildlife Service of my Department for afforestation.

The agricultural potential of the lands is said to be low but I will ask the Land Commission to have inquiries made to ascertain whether any part would be suitable for their purposes.

There is one individual with 98 acres 3 roods and 13 perches and he is paying rates to the county council since 1960 for that portion of land. The Minister is going into the matter so I need not pursue it further.

(Cavan): I am obliged to the Deputy for the information.
