8.

asked the Taoiseach the number of vehicles registered for the first time in the first six months of this year in the following categories: private cars, motor cycles, buses and coaches, goods vehicles and any other category.

With your permission a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 7 and 8 together. As full information on the number of vehicles registered for the first time in June, 1973, is not yet available, data can be provided only for the first five months of this year. The data are provisional and are liable to revision.

The number of vehicles registered for the first time with Wicklow County Council during the first five months of this year was 1,014. The number of vehicles registered in the State during the same period, according to class of vehicle, are as follows:

Private Cars

37,440

Motor Cycles

2,608

Large Public Service Vehicles

49

Goods Vehicles

5,151

Other Categories

5,585

———

Total

50,833

A large public service vehicle is a vehicle registered as a public service vehicle with a seating capacity for more than six persons.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary be in a position to give me comparable figures for the first five months of 1972?

I have some information here which was provided on the basis that what the Deputy had in mind was County Wicklow only in the first five months of this year and I have those figures if they are any good to the Deputy.

I would appreciate those.

Vehicles registered in County Wicklow during the first five months of this year broken into categories were: private cars, 762; motor cycles, 58; large public vehicles, nil; goods vehicles, 107; other categories, 87; making a total of 1,014.
