Vol. 267 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Wire Fences.

56.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will request Galway County Council to repair the wire fences on each side of the Galway-Tuam road at Claretuam, Tuam, County Galway.

I understand that the Galway County Council are not responsible, either in law or by agreement, for the maintenance or repair of the fences in question. I would not in any event consider it appropriate to issue a request to them on the lines suggested by the Deputy.

I am sure the Minister is aware that if these fences get knocked down on main roads by car accidents that the person inside is responsible? Is the local authority in no way responsible for the repairing of fences damaged by motor accidents?

No—the local authority are not responsible.
