Vol. 267 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Property Redevelopment.

81.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of any proposals to reconstruct part of the south side of St. Stephen's Green, Dublin.

I assume that the Deputy's question relates to proposals for the redevelopment of properties on the south side of St. Stephen's Green. This question is essentially one for Dublin Corporation, the planing authority for the area, and it is only in the case of an appeal under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, that a proposal of this nature would come to my attention.

There are no relevant appeals at present before me for decision and the only recent proposal of any significance that I am aware of was the application of Russell Hotels Limited, in relation to hotel and office development on the Wesley College/Russell Hotel site, for which outline permission, subject to conditions, was granted on appeal on 8th March, 1973.

Is the Minister satisfied that the question refers to houses or buildings along the side of the Green and not to the Green itself?

The only recent proposal of any significance of which I am aware is the application of Russell Hotels Limited in relation to hotel and office development on the Wesley College/Russell Hotel site, for which outline permission was granted on 8th March.

The Minister's reply relates to buildings adjoining the street, but the Deputy may have been referring to the Green itself and does the Minister know whether the Office of Public Works or the corporation propose to do anything about the Green itself?

There is no such proposal, I am glad to say.
