Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Bodies Composition.

83.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate in detail the changes, if any, made in the composition and/or the terms of reference of any State board, commission or committee under the aegis of his Department since 14th March, 1973.

There have been changes in the composition of three bodies under the aegis of my Department since 14th March, 1973. These are as follows:

(1) National Building Agency

The appointment of the existing board of the agency expired on 30th March, and the members of this board were reappointed by me for the interim period, 30th March to 30th June.

I have now appointed the following persons to be members of the board of directors of the agency for the period ending 30th June, 1974:

Mr. J.J. Byrne, St. John's Drive, Wexford

Mr. H.P. Clerkin, 182 Merrion Road, Dublin 4

Mr. J. Harman, "Medina", Howth Summit, Co. Dublin

Mr. J.C. Hogan, "Greenbank", Stradbrook Road, Blackrock, Co. Dublin

Mr. J.B. McKenna, 22 Dalkey Park, Dalkey, Co. Dublin Mr. P.T. Murphy, 130 Cherryfield Road, Walkinstown, Dublin

Mr. S. O'Hanlon, 644 Howth Road, Dublin 5

Mr. P.J. O'Hare, Tholsel Street, Carlingford, Co. Louth

Mr. S. O'Leary, 50 Glendale Grove, Glasheen Road, Cork.

Mr. S. O'Hanlon has been appointed chairman of the board of directors, and Mr. H.P. Clerkin managing director and chief executive of the company.

Messrs. O'Hanlon, Clerkin and McKenna were members of the previous Board.

(2) An Chomhairle Leabharlanna

Two new members have been appointed to this body since 14th March, 1973, on the nomination of the Association of Municipal Authorities of Ireland. They are:

Mr. Sydney Gallagher, Mail Coach Road, Sligo

Mr. Richard Jones, 12 Newport Terrace, Waterford.

(3) Working Party on the Fire Service

The composition of the working party set up to review the fire service has been changed since 14th March, 1973, by the extension of representation on it to the following bodies:

Department of Health

(representative—Mr. Colm Murphy)

Workers' Union of Ireland

(representative—Mr. Thomas Geraghty)

Irish Transport and General Workers' Union

(representative—Mr. Tadhg Fouhy).

Could the Minister give the House any information as to who was left off on 30th June in the case of the National Building Agency?

I have not got that information. All I have is the names of the new members and the names of those who were members of the previous board.

The Minister has not got the names of the old board?

Could the Minister tell us what qualifications the new members have?

I cannot, except in respect of one member because I happen to know him; he has been a county councillor for 19 years. He is Mr. O'Hare and he is most interested in housing, indeed interested to an extraordinary degree in all his activities as a county councillor.

Is he a pal?

Yes, and a very precious and decent pal.

Would the Minister not say, as he said yesterday, that the qualifications are obvious.

No. The qualifications of this particular gentleman are impeccable.

The Minister is slipping. He said yesterday they were obvious.

I know Councillor O'Hare could be excellent but what about the other people?

I do not know the other people but I am sure they are equally talented.

Would the Minister give us the division of these new Members between Fine Gael and Labour?

I cannot give the Deputy that.

84.
