Vol. 267 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bulk Milk Tanks.

118.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will make a statement on the problems created by the use of bulk tanks for milk which are often found to have antibiotics in them, thereby reducing hygiene standards.

The supplying to creameries of milk contaminated by antibiotics is to be deprecated but I do not consider that the operation of a bulk tank milk collection system aggravates this problem; all milk assembled by a creamery for processing is bulked at the creamery irrespective of the method of collection.

Could I ask the Minister if he does not think that the possible inspiration of this question may have been a BBC television programme about Irish dairying which was very detrimental to and slanderous of Irish dairying generally and projected a very bad and false picture of the Irish dairying industry?

That is a separate matter.

I did not see the programme.
