Vol. 267 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Potato Treatment.

125.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the steps he proposes to take to comply with the proposed EEC directive for the antigerminative treatment of potatoes destined for human consumption.

The proposed directive to which the Deputy refers has not yet been adopted by the European Economic Community. The question of taking steps to implement it does not, therefore, arise at present.

There have been potatoes from Cyprus and other places available in Dublin shops for a long time and I want to ask the Minister whether we are going to comply completely with the EEC regulations or have we regulations of our own which we are going to adopt?

I have just told the Deputy that the proposed directive to which the Deputy refers has not been adopted by the EEC.
