Vol. 267 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Fishery Facilities.

29.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware of the urgent need for a fish processing plant in the general area of the Coal Quay, Dún Laoghaire, to service the needs of the trawler fishermen; and if he will make a site available.

I understand from An Bord Iascaigh Mhara that the furthering of action to provide a fish handling premises adjacent to the Coal Quay, Dún Laoghaire, rests with the Dublin Bay Fishermen's Cooperative Society acting on behalf of the fishermen. The society were informed some time ago that the board would be prepared to consider grant aiding the project and the conditions for the provision of a site were communicated to them in December, 1971. Despite efforts by the board in the meantime, the society have not pursued the matter.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries when the new ice plant at the Coal Quay, Dún Laoghaire, will become operative for the use and benefit of the trawler fishermen.

I understand from An Bord Iascaigh Mhara that the installation of the ice making machinery at the new ice plant building on the Coal Quay, Dún Laoghaire, is nearing completion and it is expected that the plant will be in production at the end of this month.

I am sure the Parliamentary Secretary will invite me to the opening in view of the fact that I erected it myself almost single handed.

We are getting things done now.

A Deputy
