Vol. 267 No. 12

Written Answers. - Offaly Remedial Teacher.

162.

asked the Minister for Education if he will allow the present teacher to continue to teach remedial classes in Edenderry, County Offaly, in view of the fact that the manager is unable to get a fully qualified teacher.

My Department has not received any notification from the reverend manager of Edenderry boys' national school that he has been unsuccessful in his efforts to obtain a fully qualified and suitable person to undertake remedial teaching in that school.

A teacher engaged in remedial teaching must be qualified to act as a member of the ordinary staff of a school.

I am sorry that, as matters stand, I could not authorise the continued employment by the manager in the school of the teacher to whom the Deputy refers, who is not a fully-qualified teacher in accordance with the rules of my Department.
