The scheme under which financial aid is provided by my Department for the provision of free books and requisites for post-primary school pupils is intended to meet the requirements of pupils of necessitous families. I am satisfied that the scheme is meeting reasonably well the purpose for which it was designed and I do not propose to expand its scope to the extent of making it applicable to all post-primary pupils.
