Vol. 267 No. 12

Written Answers. - Specialists in Geriatrics.

198.

asked the Minister for Health the number of specialists in geriatrics who are working for the various health boards.

The number is four. One of them is employed direct by a health board; the other three are employed by the authorities of two general hospitals with which the health board for the area concerned has made arrangements for the provision of services.

Four other health boards are in the process of filling posts in their areas.

Proposals for the creation of such posts have now to be submitted to Comhairle na nOspidéal, the statutory body set up under the Health Act, 1970, to regulate the number and type to appointments of consultant medical staff in hospitals providing services under the Act.
