Vol. 267 No. 12

Written Answers. - Pensioner Travel Passes.

217.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of continued complaints by old age pensioners about the need to produce pension books to avail of free public travel and the dangers of loss and theft of books arising from this system; and if he will introduce the public travel card system for such persons.

The present method of issuing travel passes to pensioners by means of slips attached to their pension order books has worked satisfactorily since the inception of the scheme and there has been no significant number of complaints. However, arrangements for the issue of separate passes to holders of pension books are nearing finality and it is hoped to commence issuing such passes in the near future.
