Proposals received for the future use of Cahir Castle include the provision of a craft centre to include silversmithing, hand-weaving, potting and wood-turning, the provision of a craft shop for the sale of locally made craft-work including souvenirs, the establishment of a hand-craft display centre, the provision of a museum, the setting-up of a banqueting centre, and use of the castle for art exhibitions and cultural functions.

284.

asked the Minister for Finance the steps taken to have the outer walls of Cahir Castle, County Tipperary taken under his guardianship; and when it is hoped to have this done.

The owner of the outer bawn walls and corner towers of Cahir Castle has offered to place portion of the walls and of the adjoining area in the guardianship of the Commissioners of Public Works for preservation as part of the national monument. The exact area to be placed in guardianship is still under discussion with the owner. When agreement has been reached on this, a guardianship deed will be prepared for execution by the owner and the commissioners.
