Vol. 267 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - TV Communal Aerials.

50.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when he proposes to announce the raising of the 500 limit for communal aerials; and if he will state what the new limit, if any, will be.

I dealt with this in my reply to the debate on my Department's Estimate on 20th June. I said then that RTE and my Department were studying the second interim report of the Broadcasting Review Committee in which it was recommended, subject to certain conditions, that the 500 limit on cable television systems should be waived. I added that I would put my recommendations in this area before the Government during July, it now looks like being early August, and that having got the Government's decision, I would be in a position to make an announcement. That is still the position.

Would the Minister inform the House if he hopes to make an announcement on this matter during the month of August?

I do hope to make an announcement on this during the month of August.

51.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state (a) the number of communal aerial licences granted by his Department, (b) to whom they have been granted and the areas which each licence covers, and (c) the total number of connections to each licensed mast.

I regret that it has not been possible in the time available to compile all the information required by the Deputy. I shall send it to him.
