Vol. 267 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - County Tipperary TV Booster.

57.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the priority the Cahir, County Tipperary area has for a television booster.

I would refer the Deputy to the answers I gave to himself and Deputies W. Kenneally, J. Fahey, B. Daly and L. Cunningham on 21st June and Deputy G. Collins on 4th July about the question of improving TV reception in areas where the service is below the national average at present.

The position is that RTE have completed a detailed examination of the general position and they hope to formulate plans shortly for dealing with it.

I would like the Minister to urge RTE to give this matter priority. Before they get involved in very heavy expenditure on colour television, and all that goes with it, they might put aside a little of the money to provide normally good reception in black and white throughout the country in single channel areas.

I will certainly convey the Deputy's observations to the authority and I know they will consider them sympathetically.
