Vol. 267 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - Worker Participation.

59.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if any proposals have come before semi-State bodies under the aegis of his Department towards introducing worker participation in decision making; and, if so, if he will give details.

While no formal proposals as such have come before the semi-State bodies under the aegis of my Department towards the introduction of worker participation in decision making, nevertheless many of the bodies concerned have consultative machinery of various kinds, including works councils and committees and joint consultative procedures, all of which are aimed at giving the worker an influence in the decision making processes within his company.

I should mention that the Minister for Labour is arranging for the preparation of legislation to give effect to the Government's commitments regarding worker participation.
