Vol. 267 No. 12

Written Answers. - Educational Opportunities.

126.

asked the Minister for Education if there is any evidence to show that in modern educational trends the opportunities for the talented child are increasing while opportunities for the undermotivated and less able student are on the decrease.

I have no evidence to suggest that educational opportunities for the undermotivated or less able student are on the decrease. Indeed, the opposite is rather the case.

In our own country, as in most other countries, the case of the young person who, for one reason or another, has learning difficulties is the subject of continuing observation and research. Pupil guidance services, remedial teaching and special aid in other forms are being provided on an increasing scale for such pupils.
