Vol. 268 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Service Costs.

21.

asked the Minister for Health the proportion of the present health service costs spent in administering general practice services and hospital services.

It is assumed that the Deputy is seeking figures for the cost of the services to which he refers expressed as percentages of overall health services costs. On this assumption, the relevant percentages are 8 per cent for general practitioner services, including the cost of drugs and medicines and prescribing costs, and 72 per cent for hospital services, based on estimates for the year 1973-74.

Did the Minister say when figures of the annual cost of the choice of doctor scheme would be available?

Is that for the year ending 31st March, 1973?

The Deputy is expanding the scope of the question.

I have not got that information here but I will be pleased to let the Deputy have it if he puts down a separate question.
