Vol. 268 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Beer and Lager Variations.

24.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if there is a variation in beers and lager which are made within the State as between those sold in Northern Ireland and the State; if so, if he will explain the variation; and, if not, the reason for the price differences.

I have no responsibility for the quality of beers and lager sold in Northern Ireland, and I cannot therefore say whether there is a variation between what is sold there and what is sold in the State. The remaining part of the question does not, therefore, arise.

Would the Minister not consider it sufficiently important to try to find out the reason for such a vast difference between the two areas?

It is stronger down here.

Would the Minister not be sufficiently interested to think that there must be some very definite reason why that variation exists in the context of the question of prices here?

There is such a thing as a tax difference.

The Minister does not know.

Take him up for the weekend and stand him a few and he will find out.
