Vol. 268 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

75.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the sewerage scheme for Belahey, Charlestown, County Mayo will commence.

Progress on this scheme is a matter for Mayo County Council. I cannot say when work on it will commence.

76.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received proposals from Mayo County Council concerning improvements to the water supply in the Swinford/ Charlestown area.

The answer is "No".

77.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received proposals for a group water scheme for Killasser, County Mayo.

A group water supply scheme to serve 150 houses at Killasser is being planned. I understand that the design for the work was given to my Department's local inspector on 29th October, 1973.

78.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will ask Dublin Corporation to expedite plans to improve the poor water supply in the Phibsboro and Cabra areas, Dublin, in view of the health hazard constituted at present by the lack of proper water pressure.

I understand that work is well advanced on a scheme for the laying of a new watermain from Cappagh Cross to Finglaswood. This scheme, which is due for completion within the next few months, will significantly improve water pressures in the Cabra/Phibsboro areas.

79.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the Kilkelly sewerage scheme, County Mayo, will commence.

I understand that the contract documents for this project have not yet been finalised by the local authority. In the circumstances I cannot say when work on this scheme is likely to commence.

80.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will ask Kerry County Council to proceed with a sewerage scheme for Castlemaine as the existing sewers, which are open, constitute a serious health hazard to the people of that area.

It is for the local authority to determine the degree of priority of a particular scheme in terms of the overall programme of sanitary services works in planning for their area.

From the information available to me it would appear that Kerry County Council have not accorded this scheme a high priority.

81.

asked the Minister for Local Government when a sewerage scheme for Newtownshandrum, County Cork, will be sanctioned.

Further technical data, which the county council were requested to supply to enable the project to be assessed, are still awaited in my Department. Consequently, I cannot say when the scheme is likely to be sanctioned.

82.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for delay in commencing work on Crookstown sewerage scheme, County Cork.

Following consideration of this proposal by my Department the county council were requested to re-examine certain technical aspects of it. The result of their further examination is awaited.

83.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he received a proposal from Galway County Council, dated 3rd July, 1973, to extend the regional water supply from Kilkerrin, Connemara, to Loughconneera National School; if the proposal was submitted to Roinn na Gaeltachta, if he has received a reply from that Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A proposal on the lines indicated was submitted by Galway County Council on the 3rd July last. Roinn na Gaeltachta have been consulted and I expect to be in a position to give my decision on this proposal in the near future.

84.

asked the Minister for Local Government when stage four of Achill regional water scheme, County Mayo, is likely to be released for contract.

I understand that Mayo County Council have not accorded this scheme a high priority in their programme of sanitary services schemes in planning. Consequently I cannot say when the further planning of the scheme will proceed.

85.

asked the Minister for Local Government when Tourmakeady water scheme, County Mayo, is likely to be released for contract.

Full contract documents for this scheme, preparation of which was approved by me on 25th May last, are awaited in my Department. I cannot say at this stage, therefore, when the planning of the scheme will be completed.

86.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position regarding the plans for Cong sewerage scheme, County Mayo.

I understand that the local authority are at present reexamining certain technical aspects of their proposals for this scheme before proceeding to the preparation of contract documents.
