Vol. 268 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Industrial Zoning.

112.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider in consultation with the Minister for Industry and Commerce the zoning of the area between Emmet Road, Inchicore and the Camac river as an industrial development area; and if he will ensure that all persons who are now living in substandard dwellings in that area will be offered reasonable accommodation there.

The zoning of this and other places in their functional area is a matter for the planning authority, Dublin Corporation. I do not consider that any intervention by me is warranted. The provision of accommodation for persons in their area in need of rehousing is a matter for the corporation also.

Can the Minister say whether this area is zoned and, if so, for what purpose it is zoned?

The area between Emmet Road and the Camac river is zoned in the development plan for a residential development with a small area for general business. There are no proposals for re-zoning.

The reason I ask the question is that there is very little industry in the area and I was hoping that the Minister might talk to the local authority with a view to making available a larger section of the area for even light industry.

This would be a matter for the City Commissioners who might suggest re-zoning.

I am sure they will note what I have said.

The Deputy will appreciate that I could not take the initiative in this case.
