Vol. 268 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dumping Regulations Imposition of Duties Act.

41.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of this country's obligations to the EEC, he will consider updating the Imposition of Duties (Dumping and Subsidies) Act, 1968.

The Treaty of Rome and Regulations of the EEC Council prescribe the procedure to be followed in cases of dumping. It is a matter for the EEC Commission to implement these procedures. In our case the Treaty of Accession permits us in certain circumstances during the transitional period to take action in the case of dumping both from a Member Country and from third countries.

The Imposition of Duties (Dumping and Subsidies) Act, 1968, is adequate for the purpose of implementing the procedure laid down in the Accession Treaty and it is not necessary to amend the Act.
