Vol. 268 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork River Drainage.

6.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will sanction a Land Project scheme to drain the River Toon, County Cork.

This is a comparatively large river which, I understand, has been surveyed by the Commissioners for Public Works as being of sufficient size to warrant attention under the arterial drainage programme. It is much larger than the type of outfall watercourse which would be suitable for attention by a group of farmers as a joint scheme of work to be carried out with grant aid. In the circumstances the expenditure of Land Project funds on the improvement of this river would not be appropriate.
