Vol. 269 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mallow Flooding.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will in vestigate the losses sustained by residents in the Bridge Street and Spa areas of Mallow, County Cork, as a result of recent heavy flooding; and if he will consider providing suitable compensation for them.

I understand that the town engineer has submitted a report on the matter to the local authority, a copy of which I have seen. I shall consider any proposals which the local authorities concerned deem it appropriate to submit to me for the application of Road Fund grants towards the cost of any roads or bridges damaged, and I shall also consider sympathetically any application for grants from the provision for housing for repairs to any houses damaged by flooding, but there are no resources available in my Department's Vote from which compensation could be paid to private persons in respect of loss claimed by them.
