I assume the Deputy is referring to firearms which were surrendered pursuant to the Firearms (Temporary Custody) Order, 1972. It is necessary, in the public interest, that the surrendered firearms should remain in Garda custody in present circumstances and I am unable to say when it will be possible to return them to their owners.
