Vol. 269 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. - “Claudia” Incident.

16.

asked the Minister for Defence if reports of a homing device having been placed on the Claudia are correct.

Even if such information were available to me, it would not be in the public interest to disclose it.

The Minister is aware that there have been all sorts of rumours about this affair. Could he give us a little more information about the matter?

This Cabinet accept full collective responsibility for the action of each Member of the Cabinet. I would remind the Deputy of the Taoiseach's remark in reply to a supplementary question on 23rd May, 1973. He said:

I am aware of all the circumstances and what I said is that I am not prepared, in the public interest, for security reasons, to disclose anything other than the reply I have given which covers every aspect of the matter.

That reply was in connection with the Claudia incident.

Would the Minister agree that no one person is aware of all the circumstances in any particular case?

I would not comment on a hypothetical question like that. Perhaps if God is alive He might be the person.

Are you doubting it?

I am sure God is alive. He would be the Person.
