Vol. 269 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. - School Bus Service.

80.

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the national effort to conserve petrol supplies, he will, where there are vacant seats available in school buses, have bus tickets issued to school children who would not otherwise be eligible and whose parents have to use motor transport to convey them to school.

School bus routes are planned so that, as far as possible, all vehicles are fully loaded with pupils eligible for free transport. Where, however, spare seats are available pupils who are ineligible for free transport and who are attending their nearest school are allowed travel on the school buses at a nominal fare. Any such pupils, whose parents are presently driving them to school, are welcome to avail of this concession as long as spare seats are available.
