Vol. 270 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income Tax Code.

12.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a further statement regarding the allowance of £2,000 interest to be claimed for relief of income tax, since there are a number of industrialists, stud farm owners and business people who are concerned regarding their liability in this matter

13.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will elaborate on the reference in his statement of 9th January, 1974 to "borrowings for the purpose of a trade or profession".

14.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the restriction of interest qualifying for tax relief announced on the 9th January, 1974, will apply to all taxpayers; whether a husband and wife will be treated separately for the purpose of the restriction; and whether it is intended to make any distinction between interest payable on a loan for the purchase of an individual taxpayer's own home and other interest.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 12, 13 and 14 together.

In addition to the Deputies' questions I have received a number of inquiries from professional bodies and others about various aspects of this matter. I have today issued a further statement which refers specifically to aspects of the new restriction which will be included in the Finance Bill. A copy of the statement has been made available in the Dáil Library.

Does the statement to which the Minister refers include replies to the questions here?

Most of it does.

Do I take it that some of the questions are not replied to in it?

They will all be covered by this.

Could the Minister, as a matter of courtesy to the House, circulate at least to the Deputies who put down the questions a copy of the statement.

Yes, I will certainly do that.
