28.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make funds available to local authorities for the lowering of the floors and the underpinning of bridges and gullets which caused such havoc during the recent heavy rainfall and consequent loss to the nation and the public.

In so far as such bridges or gullets are the responsibility of a local authority it is open to the authority to propose suitable remedial works to the Department of Local Government for consideration under the various grant or subsidy schemes operated by that Department.
