Vol. 270 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford City School.

37.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the gross overcrowding at St. Paul's National School, Lisduggan, Waterford city; if he will ensure that the proposed further extension to this school will be completed before the commencement of the 1974-75 school year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

38.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will initiate as a matter of urgency the building of the extension to St. Paul's national school, Lisduggan, Waterford city; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Mr. Kenny

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 37 and 38 together.

A six classroom extension to this school has been completed during the past week and is now occupied.

Sketch plans for a further extension of six classrooms have been prepared by the Reverend Manager's architect. The Commissioners of Public Works have furnished a report on the plans and an estimate of the cost has been sent to the Department of Education.

Could we have an indication of the likely date of commencement of this further extension?

Mr. Kenny

A report on the sketch plans is prepared. No, I could not give the date but I can say that the Department stated that the extension would be given priority so that it can be proceeded with very quickly. The cost of the six classroom block is estimated at £61,000.
