Vol. 270 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coal Imports.

1.

asked the Taoiseach the total imports of coal in the latest two months for which figures are available and for the same two months for the previous year.

Total imports of coal amounted to 64,652 metric tons in November, 1973, and 77,953 metric tons in December, 1973. The imports for the corresponding months of 1972 were 69,973 metric tons and 78,600 metric tons, respectively.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary satisfied that the recent price increases announced were not levied on existing stocks? Has any examination been carried out?

That is not a matter which falls under the direct responsibility of the Taoiseach's Department.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that during the past month there has been a shortage of coal in certain areas?

I have nothing to add to my reply.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary realise that at present a great number of people are unable to obtain supplies and that the price at which coal is obtainable is very high?

That is a separate question.
